WA Grown Food Kit For Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are edible roots that, unlike potatoes, are a member of the morning glory family. There are two varieties of sweet potatoes: the pale yellow with dry flesh; and the dark orange with moist flesh.

The sweet potato is one of only a few cultivated vegetable crops that originated in the Americas. The wild sweet potato has been traced back to Peru as early as 8,000 B.C. Early Native American tribes relied on both wild and, later, cultivated varieties of sweet potatoes. Christopher Columbus introduced this versatile and nutritious storage crop to Europe.

Although sweet potatoes are also called yams, this is a misnomer, as true yams are native to African and can grow to be 100 pounds.
